Sunday 31st July - Thursday 4th August: Tiyul (Days 1-5)
All the chanichim (participants) are split into smaller kvutsot (groups) of around 13 chanichim and 3/4 madrichim (leaders) for the first few days of machaneh (camp). As well as activities aimed at learning more about the other members of their kvutsot and group building, the chanichim will spend the first five days on a tiyul (hike) from one campsite to the next, buying food and doing various fun things along the way!
Thursday 4th August: Mainsite (Day 5)
On this day all the chanichim will be welcomed back from tiyul and introduced to each other and to all the madrichim. The aim of this day is to make every individual comfortable and happy in their new environment. They will be also be introduced to the educational theme of the camp which is revolutions!
Friday 5th August: Mainsite (Day 6)
On this day the chanichim will be taught about the enlightenment and look at it as a revolution and realisation of human potential. They will also explore why and how the revolution occurred, what its aims were and whether it achieved them.
Saturday 6th August: Mainsite (Day 7)
On Shabbat the madrichim will aim to create a day that is completely different from every other day of machaneh, acknowledging Shabbat as a special day. They will also show the Habo way of having a culturally Jewish Shabbat.
Sunday 7th August: Mainsite (Day 8)
The aim of this day is to question why people revolt and to look at what motivates a revolution or a revolutionary figure. The chanichim will be introduced to the key figures in the civil rights movement and will relate these issues to their own personal experiences.
Monday 8th August: Mainsite (Day 9)
On this day the chanichim will discuss how ideals are made real. They will look at and consider the various methods revolutionaries have used, and how effective their methods were. The idea it to show the diversity of revolutionary values and aims.
Tuesday 9th August: Mainsite (Day 10)
This is Make Your Own Day where the chanichim will plan and run the whole day for each other with minimal input from the madrichim. In doing so, they will look at different characters in the bible such as Abraham who could be seen as revolutionary figure-heads.
Wednesday 10th August: Mainsite (Day 11)
The aim of this day is it to show that revolutions aren’t a thing of the past. They are active and relevant in society and our daily lives. The chanichim will also explore how revolutions can be socially, rather than individually led and that there are many revolutions that are still unresolved. Finally, they will meet some young refugees who will come to their camp to run some activities for them.
Thursday 11th August: Mainsite (Day 12)
Day out - at a secret venue to be revealed!
Friday 12th August: Mainsite (Day 13)
On this day the chanichim will look at what it means to undergo their own personal revolution. They will explore their situation and society and consider why they may want or need a personal revolution. The aim is to teach people to question their beliefs.
Saturday 13th August: Mainsite (Day 14)
On this day the chanichim will celebrate Shabbat together and sikkum (summarise) everything that has happened on machaneh.
The day will finish with a Messibat Siyum (final party) and no doubt very little sleep!
Sunday 14th August: Mainsite (Day 15)
Teary goodbyes and clean up!
